Governance and Immutability
The protocol is designed to be governance-free and immutable long term
Fluid Protocol has no governance. Protocol parameters are either predefined and immutable or algorithmically controlled by the protocol itself, which makes governance unnecessary. The long term roadmap of Fluid is to fully remove contract upgradeability from the protocol. While Fuel network and the Sway ecosystem are young, it is not viable to launch without upgradeability. For one, we do not have a wide variety of high quality oracle options on Fuel to launch fully immutable. Liquity, for instance, uses Chainlink price feeds with fallback to Tellor. Both of these oracle providers are well established projects and can be counted on to operate for years to come. There may be unexpected bugs in the early days of Fluid Protocol or in the underlying Fuel Network that require upgrades. Changing standards and upgrades may be necessary to ensure that the protocol and USDF remain fully compatible. New collateral types will need to be added after launch based on various factors including underlying adoption.
Below are the criteria for removing upgradeability. When all of these criteria are met, contract upgradeability will be disabled and the protocol will be fully immutable.
